Her Dance examines the treatment of a transgendered family member within a modern Orthodox Israeli family. Having recently transitioned to female, Aya returns, uninvited, to the family home to celebrate her oldest sister’s wedding shabbat. Each family member has a different reaction to Aya, but to varying degrees, all are uncomfortable with her presence. Aya is made to feel like a stranger within her religious family. Will she stay or will she go? What should she do? The BFF board feels that this film illuminates the struggles of people whose stories are often untold while bringing up the always important issues of personhood, religion, and family.
