Shelter Gimbel-Sherr is a junior at Bates College, double majoring in Mathematics and Rhetoric, Film, and Screen Studies. She grew up moving between Seattle, Washington, and Beira, Mozambique, where her parents worked as epidemiologists with the Ministry of Health to expand access to HIV/AIDS treatment. At Bates, Shelter is a campus tour guide, a radio DJ for WRBC, President of the Math Club, and a founding member of the college’s chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics. She is also active in the Bates Outing Club and brings her enthusiasm for the outdoors to her summer work leading multi-week bikepacking trips. Her experiences growing up abroad inspired a deep love of travel, adventure, and intercultural storytelling, passions she carries into her work with the Bates Film Festival.
