Awards: Best Short Film, Directors Guild of Canada; Best Live Action Short Drama, Canadian Screen Awards; Best Narrative Short and Best Direction in a Short, Gender Equity in Media Festival

On a Sunday at Eleven, written and directed by Alicia K. Harris, tells the story of a young Black girl named Angel who is the only person of color in an all White dance class. The film depicts Angel’s feelings of isolation and desire to conform to White, Eurocentric beauty standards. In the second half of the film, we get a glimpse into Angel’s imagination in which she envisions a world of Black women and girls that look just like her. The imagery is beautiful, celebrating Black culture and beauty and highlighting the importance of representation and self-acceptance. On a Sunday at Eleven aligns perfectly with the BFF’s mission, using art to explore themes related to identity, race, and belonging. (Written by Siena Bird, ’26)
