Io Capitano follows Seydou, a teenager living in extreme poverty in Dakar, Senegal. He dreams of going to Europe, becoming a musician, and providing for his family. He and his cousin Moussa decide to leave home to pursue this dream, which leads to many conflicts involving class, race, and exploitation. Directed by Matteo Garrone, this film covers largely underrepresented topics, such as the relationship between immigration and innocence, while also offering beautiful cinematography.
