Michael Koryta

Michael Koryta (pronounced Ko-ree-ta) is a New York Times-bestselling author whose work has been translated into more than 20 languages. He has won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and has been called “a master” by Stephen King and “one of the best of the best, pure and simple,” by Michael Connelly.

Koryta previously worked as a private investigator and newspaper reporter. His first novel, the Edgar-nominated Tonight I Said Goodbye, was accepted for publication when he was 20 years old. He has written for the screen in both feature film and television, working with Oscar and Emmy-winner producers and directors. Those Who Wish Me Dead was released in 2021, starring Angelina Jolie, Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, Jon Bernthal and Aidan Gillen, and directed by Taylor Sheridan. Several of his current projects in development have Maine settings, including Never Far Away, with director Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Walking Dead) and producer Cathy Schulman, (Crash, The Woman King), and An Honest Man, with producer Mark Roybal (Mare of Easttown, Task, and No Country For Old Men). He also writes best selling supernatural thrillers under the pen name Scott Carson. Raised in Bloomington, Indiana, where he graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, he now lives in Bloomington and Camden, Maine. His wife, Christine, is originally from Biddeford.
