Writer / producer Desi Van Til grew up in Farmington, Maine, the daughter of a pair of public school educators. She studied English Literature at Princeton University, then won a post-graduate fellowship to Paris that inspired her to pursue a career in film. Desi moved to Los Angeles and learned the ropes from mentor Greg Silverman at Revolution Studios and Warner Brothers, then spent five years as VP of Development for producers Donna Roth and Susan Arnold. During that time, she associate-produced 13 Going on 30 starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, as well as Judd Apatow’s Drillbit Taylor starring Owen Wilson. She and her husband Sean Mewshaw brought their short film ‘Last Night’ starring Frances McDormand to the Venice film festival. In 2007, they moved to Maine, and after several years of riding the rambunctious roller coaster of indie film producing, made Tumbledown starring Rebecca Hall and Jason Sudeikis. Tumbledown sold at the Tribeca Film Festival and enjoyed a limited theatrical and robust digital release. Her first play “Childish” was a sell-out success at SPACE Gallery in the spring of 2024. She serves on the Maine Film Commission and lives in Portland with Sean and their two children.
